Botox is a trendy word these days for its use in cosmetic enhancements. You might not think it would play a role in dental care, but it is the latest field to jump on the botox bandwagon. Of course, dental clinics aren’t using it to help “cure” wrinkles or provide miniature face lifts to those who want to reverse the aging process, but it does have other benefits!
Botox in the dental field is being used for procedures like TMD and implantology. There are dentists that complete other cosmetic procedures which may use botox or dermal filler to correct asymmetrical lips or other skeletal issues.
Applying botox to the face and mouth does require more care than it does when applied directly to the face. It’s necessary to use a local anethetic before applying to the sensitive areas. However, that’s always been the cost of beauty whether patients are choosing to use it out of necessity or a desire to improve their appearance.
Botox procedures in the dental office may be newer, and it isn’t something that many have heard of, but it’s definitely an emerging trend in the industry!

A new study looked at North American trends in medical and dental care, with a greater focus upon Canada where there is a wide range of different cultures who should have access to the same treatment as the rest of the population, but seems to struggle.
In many cases it is a language issue that creates a barrier – those who do not speak English comfortably may struggle to make an appointment and have a strong grasp of the information provided to them when they do get in to see a dentist. In other cases, it is cultural limitations that resides with those who have immigrated; in many Middle Eastern, and Asian countries women do not have the same rights as men and may be less likely to take control over their health and ensuring it’s a priority.
In the dental industry there are a number of things that dental practices can do to ensure all members of society have equal access to dental care.
1) Don’t discriminate – regardless of whether the person calling to make an appointment seems to have an accent or something that sets them apart, appointments should be distributed equally. It’s a sad reality that this is still an issue in this day and age, but statistics prove it to be the case
2) Make all patients feel comfortable – all individuals deserve the same respect and level of care in the dental office. However, dental staff should also recognize that some women from other cultures may not feel as though they are deserving of equal care. Make it clear that their health is of the utmost of importance to you and that they deserve the opportunity to focus on their own health
3) Local government agencies should provide support – dentist offices can’t do it all, local agencies need to provide information about the oral care available to them and even provide lists of practices accepting patients to encourage those new to North America to access the resources available

Although many parents have been made aware that dental care should start with their children in some way shape or form almost from birth, there’s still a misconception out there that it’s not necessary. Parents believe that since their children’s baby teeth are only temporary proper care is not required and that any issues that do surface are not reason for concern. Unfortunately, not enough healthcare providers that deal with children encourage parents to start as early as they should.
Children should see a dentist by their first birthday, because the treatment of tooth decay, cavaties and other oral health issues can prevent them occurring again in the future. Poor oral health is also related to diet and nutrition problems which can lead to obesity, and has links to behavioural issues.
It’s important that paediatricians begin encouraging families to take control over the oral health of their children from the onset. Dentists that see parents who have older children should also ask about other kids in the household to encourage them to be brought in, so their care becomes a priority as well.

With decades of experience, a lot of the business that we receive at ToothSavers is based on client recommendations. As a result, we closely monitor reviews posted on some of the most popular directory and review sites online. Over the past few weeks, we have made note when wonderful reviews from our known clients have made an appearance, only to find that within days or weeks of appearing, they are gone.
Our reputation is important to us, and we know that our existing clients know when they walk into one of our practices; they will get the best experience. However, we do have concerns when we see positive reviews disappearing online only to leave reviews by a few dissatisfied customers or competitors remaining.
After doing some research we have discovered that some of these top directory and review sites are intentionally removing positive feedback in order to manipulate business owners into paying for advertisements so they’ll take down the negative reviews that appear. With lawsuits pending, it’s a shame that this limits internet users’ access to unbiased information.
Independent review sites are meant to allow those in need of professional services the opportunity to research and make informed decisions by reading about the untainted experiences of individuals. While this can mean sites demonstrate, the good, the bad, the beautiful and the ugly depending upon how a customer felt after being treated by a dental office or receiving any other service from a business, at least it’s honest.
The internet is designed to be a resource, but these practices remove that level of honestly and users’ rights to unbiased information. While we are a business that has truly embraced the use of the internet to reach our current and prospective patients, and just generally provide the world access to a wealth of dental resources; we urge you not to take everything you see at face value. Read the reviews, but understand that something might be happening behind the scenes. Don’t be afraid to pick up the phone and ask us to clarify any questions or concerns you may have. Ask a friend if they’ve visited our clinics and rely upon personal references. You’ll find that you won’t regret it at all!!
But, don’t let a few bad apples to taint your view of the reliability of the internet overall; but do trust your instincts!

If you’re like many Americans, when it’s time for a visit to the dentist, you roll your eyes and begrudgingly make your way to the office because you know you’re supposed to. You sit down in that chair expecting a filling, a tooth extraction, a root canal or maybe a simple cleaning; but I bet you don’ t think that a visit to the dentist can actually save your life?
In addition to providing the services that you naturally associate with a visit to the dentist, your dental office can help detect conditions like oral cancer that affect some 35,000 Americans each and every year. At annual dentist visits, professionals can look for signs of oral cancer; with early detection the survival rates increase substantially. Dentists can also teach patients to do their own examinations to ensure that their oral health is a priority.
When you visit your dentist it goes beyond simply explaining your brushing and flossing routines; it can change your life.
